Project description
Our client, McDermott Middle East, one of the leading providers of engineering solutions for the energy industry, reached out to us to support their offshore activities in Qatar by carrying out Jacking System Inspections on PDP and LQP Platforms operating for Qatar Energy.
The objective of the inspection was to assess the condition and operational readiness of the jack-up system, hull, legs, and related components in order to determine their suitability for jacking down and towing instead of lifting, as well as to evaluate of the feasibility of utilizing the JUB’s hydraulic systems.
Scope of Work and Activities
In accordance with the client’s requirements, the inspection scope of work encompassed, but not was not limited to, the following areas:
- Inspection of Jacking equipment and visual verification of its current condition.
- Preparation of an itemised list of functional requirements for Jacking Systems to compare with existing equipment.
- Definition of minimum operability requirements for Jacking Systems.
- Visual inspection of hoses, fittings, and manifolds.
- Hose age verification.
- Inspection of Hydraulic systems and sampling for contamination/water presence.
- Testing of lines, manifolds, and hoses.
- Pumps/valves and any relief valves.
- Brakes, locking devices, and guide systems.
- Pressure testing of circuits.
- Accumulator pre-charge check.
- Oil cleanliness testing.
- Valve function and relief setpoint verification.
Project Outcome
The Inspection provided the client with a comprehensive assessment of the jacking system condition and hydraulic system functionality. The finding enabled the client to confirm the feasibility of the planned jacking-down and towing operations and identify maintenance actions required prior to execution.
