Jack-up Rig Reactivation Condition Assessment completed in Nigeria

A team of three inspectors from ALMAEER have recently completed another inspection in Nigeria – a comprehensive visual proposed Reactivation Condition Assessment of the Jack-up drilling rig Onome in Lagos, Nigeria, which had been in cold-stacked condition for several years.

The primary objective of the inspection was to evaluate the current visible condition and overall integrity across all the rig’s major systems:

  • Structural, mechanical, instrumentation, safety, and utility systems.
  • Topside equipment, hull and jacking system, cantilever structures.
  • Living quarters, lifesaving appliances, fire and gas detection systems, and associated utilities.

Particular attention was given to identifying visible deterioration, corrosion, structural deformation, mechanical wear, damage, environmental exposure effects, and missing equipment or systems that could impact safe reactivation and future drilling operations.

In addition, the assessment established the extent of the remedial activities, including maintenance, repairs, refurbishment, functional testing, recertification, recalibration, and replacement of equipment or systems.

The findings provided the Client with a clear understanding of the rig’s current condition and also provided a solid technical basis for developing a detailed reactivation strategy, supporting compliance with applicable API standards, classification requirements and operational safety expectations.

At ALMAEER, we support rig owners, operators, and drilling contractors worldwide, with independent rig inspections, condition assessments, and technical due diligence services that help reduce risk and support safe, reliable and efficient operations.
