Jack-up Rig Reactivation Condition Assessment (Nigeria)
Client: UAE based company
Provided services: Reactivation Condition Assessment Services
Duration: 2026 (5 days, 3 inspectors)
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Project description
ALMAEER Inspection was engaged by a UAE based client to carry out a comprehensive visual Reactivation Condition Assessment of the Jack-up drilling rig Onome in Lagos, Nigeria, which had been in cold-stacked condition for several years.
The primary objective of the inspection was to evaluate the current visible condition and overall integrity of the unit for potential reactivation and future drilling operations.
Scope of Work and Activities
Our inspectors conducted a detailed assessment of the condition and overall integrity across all the rig’s major systems:
- Structural, mechanical, instrumentation, safety, and utility systems.
- Topside equipment, hull and jacking system, cantilever structures.
- Living quarters, lifesaving appliances, fire and gas detection systems, and associated utilities.
Particular attention was given to identifying visible deterioration, corrosion, structural deformation, mechanical wear, damage, environmental exposure effects, and missing equipment or systems that could impact safe reactivation and future drilling operations.
In addition, the assessment established the extent of the remedial activities, including maintenance, repairs, refurbishment, functional testing, recertification, recalibration, and replacement of equipment or systems.
Project Outcome
The inspection findings provided the Client with a clear understanding of the rig’s current condition and also provided a solid technical foundation for developing a detailed reactivation strategy, supporting compliance with applicable API standards, classification requirements and operational safety expectations.
